Sigma’s Win Athletic Plaque At Banquet Of Gods And Warriors The Sigma’s of Saint Mary’s won the annual athletic plaque which was presented to Pepper Neal, newly elected president of the Sigma’s, at the Banquet of the Gods and Warriors on Thursday night, May 26, in the school dining room. The banquet tvas occasioned by the Great Olympic Games, and held on lofty Mount Olympus dur ing the reign of Jupiter and Juno in the tenth century B.C. Pindar BoAvles, the poet, opened the pro gram Avith a greeting, after Avhich the Titans (the Letter Club) sang their battle song. Toasts Avere then giAmn to Jupiter Stone by Menelaus Moore, Loud ^Var Crier, Juno Guess by Wide Ruling Aga- menanon Drane, Diana Graham by Hercules SteAvart, and Bacchus Hughes by Goodly Aeneas BroAvn. Poseidon Shepard, Shaker of the Earth, announced that Sara Ann Proctor had been elected to lead the Mu’s next year, and Atalanta Jordan announced that Ann Shu- ford had been elected vice-presi dent. Then, Aeneas Teague, In stigate of Battle, bestoAved her Avorthy office of president on Pep per Neal, and Golden Winged Iris Roberson bestoAved the honor of the vice-presidency on Evelyn Oet- tinger. Victors in the Olympic games Avere announced by Diana Gra ham. Victors are Aurelia Pulton, basketball; Ann Shuford, softball and volleyball; Charlotte Wallin, SAAumming; and tennis, Sara Ann Proctor. Other victors, announced by June Guess, are Pepper Neal, (See Page 5, Col. 1) AlumnaeW illHold Luncheon, Meeting The Saint Mary’s Alumnae As sociation Avill hold its annual meeting on June 4 at 12 p. m. This Avill be folloAved by a luncheon in the dining room. The president of the associa tion, Mrs. R. G. S. Davis of Hen derson, Avill preside at the meet ing, Avhich Avill include the in stallation of the neAv president, Mrs. H. C. Bourne, of Tarboro. Miss Dora Winters, alumnae sec retary, Avill read the annual re port. The chapter Avith the high est yearly membership attendance Avill have its name engraved on the membership cup. The Raleigh chapter, assisted by members of the Granddaughters’ Club, Avill honor the alumnae and the senior class. Bishop EdAvin A. Penick Avill say grace. The senior class Avill be officially Avelcomed at this time as alumnae by the president of the association. Ruth S3dres, senior class president, Avill make the response. The featured speaker Avill be Dr. Isabella Hester Perry (class of ’ll). Pormal graduation exercises Avill begin on Sunday, June 5, Avith the celebration of Holy Comimin- ion in the chapel at eight o’clock. At eleven o’clock the service of morning prayer Avill be read by the Rev. Mr. Hughes, and the Rt. Rev. M. George Henry, Bishop of the Diocese of Western North Carolina Avill preach the Baccalau reate Sermon. Russell Broughton Avill give an organ recital at the five o’clock evensong service after Avhich an alumnae memorial service Will be held. The alumnae to be men tioned are Mrs. Albert W. Latta (nee Helen LA-ell Smedes), Alice Mutter Hall, Mrs. EdAvard Burle son (nee Adele Steiner), Mrs. Major kl. Morrison (nee Helen Gaither), and Mrs. Odell Hudnell (nee Maiy Lee Daughtridge). Pol- loAving the chapel service, the tra ditional step-singing Avill be held on the steps of Smedes Hall. Pol- loAving this, the senior class Avill proceed to the chapel Avhere the presentation of diplomas Avill be made by the Rt. Rev. EdAvin A. Penick, Bishop of the Diocese of North Carolina. The entire school Avill then form a semi circle in front of Smedes Hall Avhere the chief marshal, Suzanne DaAvson, Avill drop the traditional handkerchief marking the end of the school jmar. Art Department Will Show Year’s Projects The annual art exhibition is being held again this year, and the studio Avill be open to visitors during Commencement. The display exhibits studio Avork as Avell as outside assign ments done by the forty-one stu dents. The projects consists of problems pertaining to the numer ous elements and principles of de sign in various media. One sec tion of the exhibition is devoted to designs shoAvn in the audi torium earlier in the year. These designs reveal different interpre tations of one subject.
